Appendix for ParkerVision Patents: Patent Related Press Releases - April 27, 2005
Title: ParkerVision Receives Fifth Wireless Patent
Date: 7/24/2001; Publication: PR Newswire;
Further Strengthens D2D Intellectual Property Position
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., July 24 /PRNewswire/ –
ParkerVision, Inc. (Nasdaq: PRKR) today received its fifth U.S. patent for its
unique Direct2Data(TM) wireless semiconductor technology, which is in the process
of being commercialized for the wireless LAN and cellular markets.
U.S. Patent 6,266,518, which was issued to ParkerVision by the United States
Patent & Trademark Office, contains 99 claims, including 9 independent claims,
and cites over 600 references. It is part of ParkerVision’s overall intellectual
property strategy, which includes 5 U.S. patents and more than 80 other patents
pending in the United States and throughout the world.
The new patent further strengthens ParkerVision’s intellectual property
claims for its unique radio frequency (RF) receiver architecture (Patent 6,601,551),
which provides efficient direct down-conversion in a single step from a modulated
RF carrier to baseband. The new patent focuses on features of the D2D technology
that result in higher signal-to-noise (S/N) ratios across a wide range of frequencies.
Such favorable S/N ratios enable the production of higher quality receivers and
transceivers that are capable of satisfying a wide range of communication standards,
for products such as wireless LAN cards and cellular telephones.
“This patent is important to us as it amplifies more of Direct2Data’s
inherent advantages and further protects our unique direct conversion architecture,” stated
David Sorrells, Chief Technical Officer. “A key focal point of ParkerVision’s
latest patent is to demonstrate how energy sampling and matched filter theory
can simultaneously coexist to facilitate higher levels of system integration
in demanding standards based applications such as cell phones and wireless LAN
devices. This patent disclosure represents the next step in explaining why Direct2Data
is a superior radio frequency transceiver platform and does not suffer from the
shortcomings of traditional direct conversion approaches.”
ParkerVision, headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida, designs, develops and manufactures
communications technology platforms and products for the wireless and video industries.
The video division is engaged in the design, development and marketing of automated
video camera control systems and automated live production systems for broadcasting
and webcasting.
ParkerVision is a leader in direct conversion radio technology. Its patented
D2D(TM) radio communications technology enables the development of advanced,
highly integrated products for a wide range of wireless and wired radio-based
devices. D2D’s innovative RF technology simplifies wireless electronics,
resulting in smaller, cost-effective, high-performance wireless communications
products. Additional
